Jewar Airport also called as the Noida International Airport is being constructed near Jewar located in the Gautam Buddha District, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a forthcoming project which will connect with the Delhi NCR. The international airport will be a part of the new Yamuna city or YEIDA city. This city is an enterprise of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Developmental Authority and the Gautam Buddha District following the cities of Noida and Greater Noida.

The Noida International Airport is expected to be the Asia’s and India’s largest airport. The agency managing the operations of the airport representing the Government of India is Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL). The cities of Uttar Pradesh like Mathura, Agra, and Gautam Buddha Nagar will be a part of the aviation network connecting to the other cities of the world.

A highway project of around 31 kilometres known as the Greenfield Highway is built by the National Highways Authority of India. It will connect the airport to Sector 65 Noida, Faridabad, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The development of the airport is through the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The foundation stone of the Noida International Airport was kept by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on November 26, 2021.

Plan of Jewar Airport

The initial plan is to build a two-runaway airport covering an area of around 1334 hectares by the end of 2024. The airport will have four terminals and will be able to accommodate 1.2 crore passengers per year in the initial phase reaching up to 6 to 12 crore passengers per year after the expansion plan. The bid for the development of the Noida International Airport was won by the Flughafen Zurich AG in 2019 who is also the operator of Zurich Airport in Switzerland.

The proposed plan of the Jewar Airport is to help decongest the Indira Gandhi International Airport reaching its threshold limit. The construction of this airport will help in providing better air connectivity and introducing a new avenue for tourist sites.
